India-Tibet Football Match in Delhi
Delhi, 7/31/07 - (Phayul) On 4th August 2007 Tibet will take on India in a historical football match. Tibet represented by Team Tibet and India represented by Delhi-XI will battle it out at the Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. Ten thousand Tibetan Buddhist monks from numerous monasteries in South India will be attending the football match. The game will also be attended by former Olympians like cricketer L. Balaji, hockey player Baskaran and sprinter Shiny Wilson, who have all agreed to attend the match standing in agreement with the Tibetan Freedom Movement.

MP promises to raise cause of Tibetan Hunger Strike in Indian Parliament
Delhi, 7/30/07 - Phayul news today reported that Mr. M.A. Kharabila Swain, Member of the Indian Parliament and Convener of All India Parliamentary Forum for Tibet, has vowed to raise the cause of 14 Tibetans on hunger strike in the Indian Parliament. The indefinite hunger strike led by Tibetan Youth Congress began on July 8 2007; Monday 30th July was the 23rd consecutive day that the 14 Tibetans have been on hunger strike.

Spielberg 'may quit Olympic role'
USA, 7/27/07 - Film-maker Steven Spielberg may quit as artistic director of the Beijing Olympics unless China takes a tougher stance against Sudan, reports ABC News.
China, a major investor in Sudan's oil industry, has been criticised for not sending UN peacekeepers to the country's troubled Darfur region.

Human Rights Questions Remain for China
Hong Kong, 7/26/07 - (CNN) -- With a year to go before the 2008 Olympics get under way, questions linger over China's efforts to improve its human rights record.
Observers and pressure groups have criticized the efforts of the Chinese government and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since Beijing won the bid in 2001, rejecting assertions by both that the Games will lead to lasting positive change in the world's most populous nation.

Tibet Groups Plan Olympics Events at North American Ball Parks
USA, 7/25/07 - Tibet groups yesterday announced plans to stage protests at Major League Baseball parks across the US and Canada in relation to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Thousands of Tibet supporters plan to make their case while attending Major League Baseball games at several locations. "The Olympic Games cannot cover up China's brutal occupation of Tibet," said Students for a Free Tibet deputy Director Tenzin Dorjee.

Pro-Tibetan Activists Disrupt China vs Juventus Football Match
Italy, 7/24/07 - On 23rd July, in Rovereto, Italy, the Chinese Olympic football team played a friendly match against one of the most renowned football teams of Italy, Juventus. The match was interrupted at several points by pro-Tibetan demonstrators from the Tibetan Community of Italy and the Associazione Italia-Tibet. Several banners reading “No 2008 Olympics in China – Free Tibet” were displayed and an Italian woman ran onto the field, waving a Tibetan flag.

China gathering intelligence on activists it thinks might disrupt 2008 Olympics
Beijing, 7/23/07 - (AP) -- China's intelligence services are gearing up for next year's Beijing Olympics, gathering information on foreigners who might mount protests and spoil the nation's moment in the spotlight.
Government spy agencies and think tanks are compiling lists of potentially troublesome foreign organizations, looking beyond the human rights groups long critical of Beijing, security experts and a consultant familiar with the effort said.

Tibetan team eyes China meet
Darjeeling, 11/7/07 - Vivek Chhetri for The Telegraph writes:
A group of sportsmen with Tibetan roots will haunt the Chinese Olympic dream next year.
Team Tibet — comprising nine players from different disciplines — hopes to compete in the Beijing Olympics under the “Tibetan flag”. The sporting event is scheduled to begin in the Chinese capital on August 8, 2008.

The team, which was officially announced in Switzerland on July 6, is made up of players currently residing in Switzerland and India. They hope to represent their “occupied country” in shot-put, table tennis, marathon, basketball and various track and field events.

Nine Tibetans from Switzerland join Team Tibet for Beijing 2008

Support by Harrer's birth place for Team Tibet
Zurich, 4/7/07 - As part of the Olympics Campaign a football match between Tibet and Huettenberg will be played on Sunday 8th July in Huettenberg, Austria. Huettenberg is the birthplace of Heinrich Harrer and this match has been organised by the Tibetan Community in Austria to coincide with the birthday celebrations for His Holiness.
